Solution
Issue:
How to apply Oracle GoldenGate patches.
Solution Overview:
GoldenGate patches are released to customers as full General Releases and can be installed in exactly the same way.
Solution Detail:
GoldenGate releases sometimes must be built for customers urgently to fix a production issue. Such releases are generally known as patches.
A Patch is:
· A full release. The compressed file (gz or PAK) contains the whole GoldenGate product, just as it is available from edelivery.oracle.com.
·
· Installed according to the published GoldenGate documentation. As of version 10, Windows and UNIX instructions are in the GoldenGate Installation and Setup guide for the relevant database type. HP NSK installation instructions are available in the GoldenGate for NonStop Administrator Guide. The documentation is available at http://edelivery.oracle.com.
·
· Usually available from My Oracle Support (http://support.oracle.com.)
The GoldenGate Support team will inform the customer of the location.
·
· Fully supported as if a full General Release, with its own version ID.
Guidelines in installing a patch:
· A patch release should be unzipped into a different directory from the production GoldenGate files, before the formal upgrade process
·
· Preliminary tests should be done before upgrading the current production version to the patch version. Upgrade instructions are available from the GoldenGate documentation, as stated above.
·
· The Support team may provide different installation instructions that override the published ones, such as replacing only individual binaries, but in the absence of explicit instructions, the published ones should be used.
·
· Always consult GoldenGate Support if you have questions or concerns about any upgrade procedure.
